The section on “Socio-Economic Metabolism” of the International Society for Industrial Ecology held its 13th conference from 13th to 15th of May 2019 in Berlin, Germany. Around 120 researchers from all over the world met to discuss a wide range of applications of material flow analysis and related methods as a tool for environmental sustainability assessments from the local to the global level.
