The section on “Socio-Economic Metabolism” of the International Society for Industrial Ecology held its 13^th conference from 13^th to 15^th of May 2019 in Berlin, Germany. Around 120 researchers from all over the world met to discuss a wide range of applications of material flow analysis and related methods as a tool for environmental sustainability assessments from the local to the global level.
